چکیده

This paper is devoted to the redesign of the Lagrangian remapping process for compressible Hydrodynamics in order to achieve better computational performance. As an unintended outcome, the analysis has lead us to the discovery of a new family of solvers – the so-called Lagrange-flux schemes – that appear to be very promising for the CFD community. Results obtained with the Lagrange-flux approach are comparable with those obtained with the “legacy” Lagrange-remap solver using staggered variables, but provide a far better scalable computational performance, as proven using performance modeling. We also extend Lagrangeflux scheme to the case of multimaterial flows involving interface capturing advection schemes.

Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian methods for modelling high speed multi-material flows

Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian methods are well suited to modelling high speed compressible multimaterial flow problems in complex geometry. In this talk three stage ALE schemes will be considered, which are typically used for practical calculations of multimaterial flows. These three stages are: a Lagrangian stage, in which the solution and the computational mesh are updated; a rezoning stage, ...

The numerical simulation of compressible flow in a Shubin nozzle using schemes of Bean-Warming and flux vector splitting

Over the last ten years, robustness of schemes has raised an increasing interest among the CFD community. The objective of this article is to solve the quasi-one-dimensional compressible flow inside a “Shubin nozzle” and to investigate Bean-Warming and flux vector splitting methods for numerical solution of compressible flows. Two different conditions have been considered: first, there is a sup...

Coupling an Eulerian Fluid Calculation to a Lagrangian Solid Calculation with the Ghost Fluid Method

We propose a numerical method for modeling multimaterial flows where the domain is decomposed into separate Eulerian and Lagrangian subdomains. That is, the equations are written in Eulerian form in one subdomain and Lagrangian form in the other subdomain. This is of interest, for example, when considering the effect of underwater explosions on the hull of a ship or the impact of a low speed pr...

Numerical Investigation on Compressible Flow Characteristics in Axial Compressors Using a Multi Block Finite Volume Scheme

An unsteady two-dimensional numerical investigation was performed on the viscous flow passing through a multi-blade cascade. A Cartesian finite-volume approach was employed and it was linked to Van-Leer's and Roe's flux splitting schemes to evaluate inviscid flux terms. To prevent the oscillatory behavior of numerical results and to increase the accuracy, Monotonic Upstream Scheme for Conservat...

Flux-Limited Schemes for the Compressible Navier-Stokes Equations

Several high-resolution schemes are formulated with the goal of improving the accuracy of solutions to the full compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Calculations of laminar boundary layers at subsonic, transonic, and supersonic speeds are carried out to validate the proposed schemes. It is concluded that these schemes, which were originally tailored for nonoscillatory shock capturing, yield ac...
